Change Affecting Cell Phone Solicitation A Scam

We were duped!  We received this email and passed it on to you without doing our homework.  The factual part of this is that you can call this number from your cell phone and be put on the Do Not Call list.  The urban legend is that cell phone numbers go public this month.  They don’t!  Still, it’s a good idea to register your cell phone, anyway.  Here is the email solicitation and a link to the FCC’s office response to this scam.

From the Federal Trade Commission:

“REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month.  All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

…. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 1-888-382-1222.  It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

As of now, there is no plan to release cell phone numbers to the public.
